| Danny Schwartz won the $1,000 Modified feature prize and Michael Donley posted his first Street feature win of the year Saturday at Charleston Speedway. Donley, Brandon Roundtree and Nick Miller. Won heats and Donley started the feature on the pole position. Donley had a straightaway lead over second place but two drivers worked their way through the field. Junior Wiltermood started 10th and finished second while Ed Kuhn started 19th and finished 12th. A caution bunched the field again and on the start Donley continued to dominate pulling away from the field by a few car lengths. The $1,000-to-win Modified drew 26 cars. Ed Shamhart posted fast time and collected $100 compliments of TCA and a Plaque donated by Nancy’s Lettering. Shamhart, Schwartz, Ryan Cary and Dustin King were the heat winners. Bill Wagoner won the semi to advance to the feature and Shamhart and Schwartz brought the field to the green flag. Schwartz jumped to the early lead and had no challenge until Gabe Menser, who started sixth, worked his way to second. Schwartz started to get in the lapped traffic and Menser was able to gain on Schwartz as the two put on a good show for the crowd by weaving in and out of the lap cars. With four laps to go, Menser started under a lap car that then spun and hit Menser. Menser had damage to the car so he left the track and Schwartz went on to the $1,000 victory. Jeff Vanlannen hit a tractor tire at the bottom of turn one, causing him to roll his car but he appeared to be OK. The hard charger award went to Roger Mills who started 19th and finished 11th to receive a plaque compliments of B & B Trophy. Randy Smyser continued to dominate in the Pure Stock class. Danny White Jr. won the lone heat race. White and Smyser brought the field to the green. Smyser took the lead and White on Smyser’s bumper. Smyser stretched his lead a little, but White would catch back up to him. They raced hard to the checkered flag with Smyser capturing his fourth consecutive feature win. In Hornet, rookie Justin Evans and Pat Calhoun posted their first heat wins of the season. In the feature event they would start side by side. Calhoun took the lead and never had a challenge from second-place car. Calhoun went on to win his first feature this year. Points leader Joey Smyser had mechanical problems had to pull into the infield. Charleston Speedway fans and drivers pulled together Saturday night for one of their own - Dustin Wiltermood who has raced at the speedway. Dustin and his wife Sam lost their twin boys.
